Berlin isn’t just the capital—it’s above all one thing: the party capital. The legendary Berghain or Wilde Renate are far from the only venues this metropolis has to offer.
Kosmonaut in Berlin Lichtenberg
Kosmonaut is a work of art in itself. The lighting design, the colors—if Berlin’s nightlife crowd weren’t buzzing around here, it could easily be a post-apocalyptic art gallery. The old flair of traditional Berlin dance halls and architecture meets modern lighting and heavy bass. Kosmonaut feels genuinely cozy and far from sterile, very Berlin: wood, warm colors, casual dress code. Various electronic DJs and the occasional live act keep the energy high.
To get from the hostel at Stresemannstraße 66 to Kosmonaut, walk to Anhalter Bahnhof and take the S2 to Friedrichstraße station. Then continue with the S5 to Nöldnerplatz. From there it’s a 10-minute walk.
Matrix in Berlin Friedrichshain
Matrix became widely known when it became one of the filming locations for “Berlin – Tag & Nacht.” But even before that, it was a popular Berlin venue. The club’s focus is on electronic dance music, but since 2003 a broader selection of music has been played across seven floors. Matrix is open seven days a week. The crowd here tends to be under 25, with very high energy levels.
To get from Three Little Pigs to Matrix, walk 10 minutes to Möckernbrücke station and take the U1, which goes directly to Warschauer Straße. From there it’s a two-minute walk south.
Ritter Butzke in Berlin Kreuzberg
If you prefer something more relaxed than Matrix but don’t want to miss out on the energy of electronic beats, head to Ritter Butzke. Located in a beautiful old factory building with three floors and (in summer) an idyllic outdoor area. The atmosphere here is down-to-earth Berlin.
Tresor in Berlin Mitte
Club Tresor is firmly part of the international techno club landscape. The in-house label produces its own music, and according to the international “DJ Magazine,” the club ranks in the top 100 best clubs worldwide. The venue has been located in the Heizkraftwerk Berlin-Mitte power plant since 2007. The atmosphere inside is rather dark and minimalist.
